JOB DESCRIPTION
The Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) Specialist plays a critical role in promoting a safe and compliant work environment across multiple manufacturing sites. This position supports both HSE and HR functions, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing workplace hazards, and fostering a culture of safety and operational excellence.
The HSE Specialist is responsible for implementing safety programs, and, tracking of certifications and licenses, testing, workers compensation reporting, and OSHA record keeping. Works with and maintains documents and information that are highly confidential in nature. Champions safety themes "Courage to Care", "License to Intervene", and "Consequence Thinking" into all HSE activities and training programs, and operations excellence by showing employees how their actions connect to Company’s HSE vision and create long term value.
Primary Responsibilities
- Champion safety as the top organizational priority and able to recognize/evaluate safety concerns.
- Evaluate, assess and update safety procedures to ensure worker safety and compliance with all regulatory bodies and standards.
- Prepare and conduct safety-training sessions, documenting employee participation, ensuring safety training for all employees, including new hires.
- Conduct safety audits, provide information to parties allotted and ensure actions are completed from internal and external safety audit results.
- Manage Near-Miss, First Aid and safety programs. Maintaining monthly accident analysis and required reporting.
- Oversee training and safety inspections on personnel, materials and equipment.
- Responsible for staying up to date with regulatory changes and technology.
- Responsible for conducting and reporting required permits and coordinating monthly, quarterly, and yearly HSE compliance forms and testing.
- Integrate the safety themes "Courage to Care", "License to Intervene", and "Consequence Thinking" into all HSE activities and training programs.
- Spend time on the production floor to increase visibility and coach employees on how to think safely.
- Establish and implement best practices across the plant.
- Assists in complying with government (OSHA and similar agencies) safety regulatory compliance requirements, i.e.: machinery guards, interlock systems, environmental programs, etc.
- Provides Job Hazard Analysis (JHAs) revisions.
- Behavior based safety, preferably DuPont STOP
- Ensure facility has a plant safety committee and assists in the safety committee members’ development.
- Participate in workers’ compensation claim management.
- Serve as liaison with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies.
Minimum Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS: 2 - 4 years of experience in HSE role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience .OSHA 30 hour or equivalent preferred
EDUCATION: An associate’s degree in industrial safety and occupational health or a comparable discipline in HSE is required, bachelor’s degree desired.
Travel Frequency: 35%
